The legal successors of the Public Administration Offices are the Government
Offices which were formed in the first of January 2011. Their headquarters are
located in the county-seats. The 20 offices harmonize and coordinate the implementation
of the local governmental tasks. The aim of the new system is to centralize the
operations of the governmental bodies.
The director of a government office is appointed by the Prime Minister on the
recommendation of the minister responsible for the given office they control.
These directors coordinate the everyday tasks of the 20 offices.
Since the third of January the government offices operate a consumer center called
“government window”. These offices can deal with 29 different topics from child
support to general information requests.
