On the 9th of August 2010 the Ministry for National Economy appointed the Hungarian Authority
for Consumer Protection for operating the European Consumer Centre (ECC) in Hungary
from the 1st of January 2011. The European Union approved the work program and the budget
of the ECC Hungary that assure its financial and professional independence. Accordingly,
the ECC Hungary carries out its activity in the field of cross border consumer
protection from the 1st of January 2011 in the organizational system of the HACP with a high level of
professionalism.
The main tasks of ECC Hungary are the involvement in the settlement of cross
border consumer complaints in order to facilitate the settlement of cross border
legal disputes in order to reach an amicable solution between the consumer and
the trader. The ECC Hungary is entitled to provide assistance in cross border
complaints which means that the consumer and the trader have its residence/seat
in different countries, in one of the Member States of the European Union, Iceland
or Norway.
